Turning Your Orgasm into a Cause for Science
The 2008 Orgasm Survey is underway. It claims to be the world's largest survey of the female orgasm and even though we have no facts to back up that claim, its always a good mission to have this ever-important phenomenon studied,. So this is a call to all women to give up the 2 minutes necessary and run through the quick survey. It can be found here.

It should be said that this is not academic research, but a study being done by a group that is marketing a pelvic muscle firming product. This is not the only such product on the market, and devices are not essential in order to do pelvic floor exercises (kegels). Having said that, the information collected is important and there is not nearly enough research being done on this subject. Perhaps if the business world will lead the way, academic research will find more funding and everyone will come out smiling. Especially the pre-orgasmic gals.

Orgasm as a Cause for Science

And just for the record, there is an inaccuracy in the stats quoted. The writers of the survey say that 9/10 women never experience vaginal orgasm, when most research speaks about 7 out of 10. It still suggests we need to understand this situation a great deal more, but hey! - let's not go stealing orgasms from tens of millions of women!

We'll be following up with the findings....

(Hug the) Earth Day!

Wherever you are on the planet, on Earth Day we're all in the same place, with the same needs and future. Let's remember to do our bit for our environment.

                      Earth Day 2008

Consider these few ideas about the relationship between healthy sex, a healthy life and a green environment.

¤ Sex should be a measure of good health
¤ Sex should contribute to good health
¤ Sex should advance our mental and physical wellbeing
¤ Sex should be safe from disease, violence and stress
¤ Sex should be green

The Return of the Quickie
Ignore the sensationalist heading. This is not an endorsement of quickies, but it is a story about sex and timing that will make a whole lot of people feel better about the fact that they dont have the kind of sexual control that they think they should have.

Research undertaken at Penn State University (Corty et al.) put some stop watches to work as couples went about their lovemaking. They learned that couples having sex that lasted, well, not as long as conventional wisdom would consider to be optimal, were reporting having pleasurable and satisfying sex lives. According to the researchers, 3-13 minutes of sex was considered to be "the optimal amount of time for sexual intercourse". Of course that excludes foreplay and perhaps a bit of post-sex cuddling before retiring.

                            Return of the Quickie

What do these numbers add to our understanding of good sex? There is quite a big difference between 3 and 13, after all, especially for the lover who can last 3 minutes and is dying to double or triple the time he (usually its a he) can enjoy the feeling before its all over. Speaking of optimal sexual experiences as a range and not an exact number (such as if they said the optimal time is 8 minutes) allows people to see normal sex as a something that is wider and more inclusive. It means that longer isn't necessarily better. Pun intended.

Hopefully this will leave a whole lot of people with a lot more confidence and less anxiety. Now take your eyes off the clock; this isn't an athletics meet.
