The vulva is the jewelry of the genitals. It adorns the outside, coming in millions of different shapes, sizes and colours. Sadly, too many women describe feeling awkward about the way it looks, instead of celebrating their own original masterpiece. For some reason women expect the vulva to be neater, more symmetrical or organized, like a sketch, when in fact, just like a person's face, their genitals come in their own proportions and versions, and are rarely symmetrical.
The vulva has hundreds of names, some charming and others offensive. In Indian Sanskrit it was given the charming name Yoni; in English it is often called something less poetic, such pussy or cunt, making many women feel disgusted and objectified by this one body part.
Recently, some women began using the term cunt openly and defiantly as a way of empowering themselves and challenging the feeling of sexuality being used to weaken our status.
The vulva includes the soft fatty tissue called the Mons which covers the pubic bone. The mons is covered with pubic hair. This hair patch spreads towards the legs, over the lips and backwards towards the anus.
Below the mons are the external lips (Labia Majora). These thick and fatty lips are the gateway to the vagina. Underneath the outer lips are the thin inner lips (Labia Minora). They may protrude naturally or they may be hidden and only visible when you spread your legs.
